Roman Ivanychuk (1929-2016) - a famous Ukrainian writer, winner of many literary prizes, including the National Prize of Ukraine. T. Shevchenko. His creative work includes about twenty historical novels, with which the writer filled the white spots in our history.
The novel "Because war is war ..." (1989) is a story about the difficult life of a Galician who had to go through World War I, emigration, return to Ukraine and repression in the 1930s. The breadth of events depicted by R. Ivanychuk is fascinating - from the naturalistic paintings of the First World War, the Polish-Ukrainian war of 1918-1919 to the survival of Ukrainian emigrants abroad. The writer depicts the last days of Ivan Franko's life and death; Mykola Khvylovy, Les Kurbas, Stepan Rudnytsky, Oleksandr Oles and other representatives of the color of the Ukrainian nation appear in the pages of the novel; and the beauty of the North Pole seen through the eyes of pioneers comes to life.
