O. Sokolovsky's historical novel "Bohun" was first published in 1931 in sub-Soviet Ukraine, in the publishing house "LIM". It is known that at the request of the publisher, the author had to rework his work several times. This is an indisputable proof that the ideological concept of the novel did not fit into the framework of the worldview prescribed by the occupier. But even such concessions did not save the author - in 1937 Sokolovsky was accused of allegedly joining an anti-Soviet SR organization in 1932, and in 1936 he was recruited into an anti-Soviet Ukrainian nationalist organization and led a terrorist group that aimed to forcibly rape Sokolovsky was sentenced to death by an out-of-town session of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR on August 22, 1938, and on the same day he was shot dead.
