Create a magic lamp with color moving images from a scientific kit from 4M! The lamp works on the principle of the zootropic device. It will decorate your room and create a special mood. Gather your friends and show them an evening light show with colorful lights and pictures!
This set from the STEAM Powered Kids series is suitable for elementary school girls from 8 years old. Designing a magic lamp will help to develop ingenuity, imagination, show creativity, introduce the basics of physics, color. The 4M kit is suitable for use in STEAM pedagogy.
In the kit you will find detailed instructions with illustrations and details for creating a lamp. Additionally, you need a small Phillips screwdriver and two AAA batteries. How does the lamp work? You can use it in two configurations: to create a charming atmosphere in the room and study the colors, as well as to experiment with a zootrope.
In the first case, assemble a lamp with a transparent cover. Create different colors and shades using round patterns. Admire the colorful curls on the walls and ceiling of your room. Coloristics studies the main, additional and component colors, the skill of their combination. When two colors intersect, a new color is created. For example, purple appears from red and blue light. In the center, all three colors fall on the screen, creating a white light. This effect is called color mixing.
For experiments with a zootrope, take a special nozzle and stripes with animated images. Install them according to the instructions. Zootrope creates optical illusions. Your eyes "remember" the reflection of the picture for a split second, even after it disappears. This effect is called visual inertia. As you rotate the zootrope in the slots, you take turns seeing pictures that the eye perceives as the only moving image.
The zootrope was invented in the early 19th century. He was one of the forerunners of film projectors.
