"Anne of Avonley" by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) is a continuation of the story of the girl from Green Roofs. Sixteen-year-old Anne Shirley is busy with adult activities: she teaches at a local school, helps Marilla cope with the household and upbringing of the new inhabitants of the Green Roofs - the little twins Devi and Dora.

The girl and her friends dream of an interesting and happy future, think about adult life. Anne wants to continue her studies at the university and hopes to finally meet love. However, she does not suspect that her chosen one is very close.
