In the publication, the letters of Taras Shevchenko and his addressees were for the first time consolidated in chronological order into a single corpus. The letters unfold a number of interesting episodes from the life of the artist and his entourage, recorded eloquent household and mood details and more. The reader of the epistolary is presented with living figures of those whom the poet loved and to whom he could open up, Shevchenko tells his deepest experiences, shares his thoughts and dreams.

The epistolary provides an opportunity to learn more about Shevchenko's life while studying at the Academy of Arts, his travels in Ukraine, reveals the spiritual suffering of the artist in exile. Letters are sometimes the only source of information about certain aspects of Shevchenko's biography and work of those years.
