Who is he, the "quiet reformer"? Philip Melanchthon, brought up in a humanistic environment, in the early years of the Reformation adopted the gospel teachings of Martin Luther and became one of his closest associates. Participation in the Reichstag, correspondence with European monarchs, reforming the church and school, developing a new theology and teaching at the university - this is a non-exhaustive list of Melanchthon's activities. His life is the answer to the question of how to combine the incompatible: the Reformation and humanism, whose ideals were associated with antiquity, politics and deep piety, science and practice. And, moreover, how to build a society based on piety and erudition, in conditions of war, political destruction and destruction of traditions.
The book is intended for all those who are interested in how to engage in politics and not lose Christian virtues; to be a well-known scientist and, at the same time, a leading theologian; have a European reputation as a university lecturer and take care of school problems and resolve complex diplomatic conflicts.
