Geometry for the 21st century. A book for curious students and thoughtful participants

The book is a well-known figure in school mathematics education, author of numerous collections of original problems, textbooks and manuals for students and teachers, an active advocate of in-depth study of mathematics and the Olympic movement among students IF Sharigin (1937–2004). The first part of the book presents a selection of inspired journalistic and methodological-didactic articles of the author, in which the reader's attention is drawn to the special and irreplaceable role of geometry in general cultural, creative-intellectual and emotional-aesthetic development of man. Numerous specific recommendations to teachers and educators to improve the teaching of geometry in school are substantiated. The second part presents a collection of "500 geometric problems", which represents an unbiased and unmasked by optimistic campaigners author's measure of the true standards of school geometric training at three levels - low, medium and high. Solutions and methodical comments are added to the tasks. Therefore, each student can from time to time "try on" this standard and make appropriate adjustments to their training, and each teacher can measure the learning outcomes of their students. The book is for all those who are actively involved in school mathematics, that is, as written in the subtitle - curious students and thoughtful teachers. It will be useful for students of pedagogical universities of physical and mathematical profile, who see in their future profession a high vocation.
