The name of Mykhailo Lomatsky (1886, Ternopil region - 1968, Germany) is almost unknown to the readership, it is known only in a narrow circle of Hutsul scholars and literary critics. However, this man made a significant contribution to Ukrainian culture. Ethnographer, folklorist, publicist, cultural and public figure, teacher, Mykhailo Lomatsky was in love with the magical nature and people of the Hutsul region, collected and recorded legends, parables, beliefs; as an active member of the Hutsul Society, he devoted a lot of energy and time to research and artistic and documentary reproduction of the past of the Hutsul region, which is reflected in his works. "Homin of Hutsul Antiquity" (1961, Munich) and "From the Carpathian Mountains" (1967, Munich), included in this edition, best confirm the words of M. Lomatsky, who wrote more than 50 years ago: "There is no other country in the world that it would be as enchanted by beauty as our Hutsul region. "
