"Gulistan" ("Rose Garden", 1258) - the culmination of the Persian poet Saadi Shirazi (1210-1291). Written in the form of instructive and fascinating stories, supplemented by poetic aphorisms, he entered the golden fund of not only Persian but also world literature. For more than seven centuries, Gulistan has been the main textbook on Persian language and literature not only in Iranian schools but also in countries where Persian and related Tajik and Farsi-Kabul were spoken. The book was transcribed. and spread in incredible numbers in Iran, Central Asia, Turkey, Egypt, India and other countries. Gulistan deservedly gained the fame of an unsurpassed example of Persian prose, in which a remarkable harmony of form and content was achieved.
