The girl demands that she buy a new toy. He shouts at the whole store: "Mom, I want, I want, I want!" Shouting loudly, behaving ugly. Mom, Dad is ashamed. "Quieter, quieter! Behave well, ”they say. But it is impossible to calm down the child. And stricter parents begin to get angry, punish the child.

Why is this happening to children? How to get rid of "WANT"? Not only a child, but also an adult?

This book is an attempt to explain the phenomenon of "I WANT" on the example of the life of little Solomiya and help the reader to break free from the captivity of endless and meaningless "I WANT".

The story of the spiritual rebirth of little girl Solomia, which happened on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, is like a little miracle that will be a good example for both children and adults.

The book is recommended for children from 4 years old, as well as their parents. It will be a great gift for a little person whose fate you care about.

In each book - a gift: materials and instructions for making a homemade card.

Illustrator of the book "I want, I want gifts" Natalia Derevyanko revealed the secrets of the creative process:

"I wanted to tell a fairy tale, because holidays and gifts are always a fairy tale for children, "a link to life, so that every child sees himself in it!"

"Hurray, I finally finished illustrating a new children's book about the girl Solomiya and the winter holidays - St. Nicholas Day, New Year and Christmas. The book was first called "The Night Before St. Nicholas", then "Why St. Nicholas brings gifts", then "Give, well give", and now it is called "I want, I want gifts!", But for me it remained a book about Nicholas.

Yes, in this case, the text is not mine, but my illustrations, and I really, really like them.

This is not my first experience of custom-made illustration, I have also published two books "Fairy Tales for Little Princesses" and "Fairy Tales of a White Rabbit", in which both text and illustrations are my work. As you know, working to order and working on your own offspring are completely different things! On the order it is necessary to feel what the customer expects, to transfer it as much as possible and to get pleasure from work. And it's all together oh how difficult ...

I wanted to tell a fairy tale, because holidays and gifts are always a fairy tale for children, and a link to life, so that every child sees himself in it.

I had an idea for a long time, but then my puppet friends suggested it to me, and my husband gave it a definition. When I was admiring the author's dolls, I had the idea to make Solomiya in a retro style, a kind of Victorian style. I also gave her a big head and big eyes, which is typical of dolls, but, of course, she revived the doll so that she could live her story and tell it to others. And my husband, looking at the sketches and the first sketches, said it was steampunk. I liked his definition, and I tried to keep the whole book in this style.

The book is unfolded in a rare technique for illustration - oil on canvas. At the same time I executed pictures in scale 1: 1 that at scanning and the press the invoice of a smear and a cloth was visible.

But another special requirement was the interactivity of the book. In this regard, the text provided schemes-instructions for making gifts for dad and mom. According to these instructions, the child had to make gifts for the parents. How to fit these schemes into a retro style, in which the textural technique of writing is clearly expressed? After all, it is illogical to draw a scheme on canvas ... I had the idea to play on the contrast of the textures of canvas and paper. Thus, elements (hearts, bows), paper dies were introduced throughout the book: it seemed that they were simply superimposed on top of the illustrations, which allowed to organically enter the provided schemes-instructions. I think these schemes are a good discovery, because the book not only tells, but encourages the child to work with his hands and take part in the preparation of the holiday.

I made the book in one breath, although it is a very time-consuming and exhausting process, a successful idea directed all the work in the right direction. This time I am absolutely satisfied with the process and the result of my own work "(N. Derevyanko)
