The second book of the project "History of Kyiv" is called "Kiev Lithuanian-Polish". It tells the story of the least known inexperienced reader of the history of Ukraine, when much of our land was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and then Poland. The author explains in detail, using historical materials, why Russian and later Soviet historiography kept silent about the events of that time and about the people who lived in that era. At the same time, Viktor Kirkevich emphasizes that not only Russia, which weakened and lost its statehood after the Mongol-Tatar invasion, needed a strong defender, who became the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 14th century, but the principality itself benefited from this unification. influenced by Russian culture, writing and Orthodoxy. And of course, the reader will undoubtedly be interested in a detailed and fascinating story about the life of Kiev and its inhabitants in this little-studied period.
