For a century and a half, the world has been reading stories, vaudeville and historical stories about Ukraine by Grigory Kvitka-Osnovyanenko (1778-1843), the founder of fiction in Ukrainian literature. In recent decades, the writer's books have become a bibliographic rarity in his homeland. Folio Publishing House, filling this gap, offers readers Little Russian short stories in Russian translations made by the author himself. Their location fully corresponds to the plan of the writer, repeating the structure of two books published by him in 1834 and 1837. The third, prepared for publication, he did not have time to publish, and the stories included in it, as well as not included in the author's collections, were published in Russian only in magazines and almanacs in the 1830s-early 1840s and first collected in our edition. At the same time, the Folio publishing house published LG Frizman's book (1935-2018) The Witty Osnovyanenko, which, along with other works, examines the writer's short stories in Little Russia.
