Mykhailo Semenko (1892-1937), the founder and theorist of Ukrainian futurism, poet, philosopher, and violinist, was a tragic and extremely bright figure in Ukrainian literature, unjustifiably forgotten in the days of "socialist realism." Everything was intertwined in his life and work: the revolution as a world revolution, the revolution as a reappraisal of the artistic values of Ukrainian art, the endless search for new, unknown - as a breakthrough of Ukrainian art in the European cultural space. The outrageous man, urbanist, futurist, Mykhailo Semenko, like most talented artists of the Shot Renaissance generation, was accused of active "counter-revolutionary activity" and executed in Solovki.
