Mykhailo Hrushevsky (1866-1934) is one of the main figures of Ukrainian national self-affirmation in the recent history of Ukraine. An outstanding scientist and socio-political figure, he created a 10-volume "History of Ukraine-Russia" - the first complete history of Ukraine, thus surpassing even such outstanding predecessors as Kostomarov, Kulish, Drahomanov, Antonovich. But Hrushevsky not only wrote historical works, he also created history: in 1917 he became the head of the new Ukrainian state - he was elected chairman of the Central Council (1917-1918), which in 1918 proclaimed the Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR). Thanks to this, the world learned that there is a Ukrainian state on earth, whose president was MS Hrushevsky.
