"He never gave me flowers ... He never went for a walk with the children ... He never discussed anything with me ... He changed his family for politics ... I was always alone ..." These are lines from recently sensational memoirs published in Poland by Danuta Wałęsa, wife of the former President of Poland and founder of the independent trade union Solidarity Lech Wałęsa. These memories caused a flurry of emotions in society. Some believe that a wife should not have written this about her husband, and even such a famous one. But Ms. Danuta doesn't think so. Having given birth to eight children, believing that the most important thing in life is a family, she did not become an ordinary concerned housewife, always had her own voice and point of view and was never just a shadow of her famous husband. Now she describes how difficult it was for her to live with a fighter and politician who, due to his responsibilities, completely distanced himself from his family.
