& laquo; Museum of Unconditional Surrender & raquo; & ndash; one of Dubravka Ugrašič's most famous novels is a poignant story about emigration, in which exile becomes a convenient lens for looking at one's own biography and country. An intellectual of the highest caliber, Dubravka Ugresic constructs a collage novel that begins at the Berlin Zoo and ends at the Berlin Fitness Center. But between these points & ndash; as if in a family photo album & ndash; & rsquo; faces appear and disappear, painful longing for the homeland grows, bombs of the new war explode, and the answering machine sounds the sad voice of an old mother, whose features over the years the lyrical heroine increasingly recognizes. And with it, the reader begins to find and remember in his biography similar parallels and plots, suddenly he becomes the hero of his own autobiographical novel. Only truly great literature can achieve this effect.
