Make a 9.5 cm high desktop volcano with a 4M research kit. Paint it with paints from the set. Surprise your friends and family with an eruption of effervescent lava. This is a terrific scientific project and an original design of the table.
The drawing instructions show how to create a volcano layout using a template, and how to paint it by mixing paints to get new shades. There are also interesting facts about volcanoes.
Creating a volcano layout
Cover the table with newspaper before starting work. You will need: a mixing bowl, scissors.
1. Cut the bags of plaster, and pour the powder into a bowl.
2. Add approximately 280 ml of water to the gypsum powder and mix until the mixture is homogeneous.
3. Pour the mixture into a mold and shake gently to get rid of air bubbles.
4. Leave on for 20-30 minutes. at room temperature.
5. When the plaster hardens, carefully separate the workpiece from the mold.
Painting the volcano layout
For best painting results, wait for the gypsum surface of the volcano to dry completely. This may take up to 24 hours. Paint the layout of the volcano brown and red or choose a color scheme yourself. Read tips on mixing paints to create new shades.
Volcanic eruption
It will take a little vinegar and baking soda to mimic a volcanic eruption. Vinegar and soda are not included. It is best to perform this experiment outdoors or cover the table surface well to avoid damaging or staining it.
1. Pour a teaspoon of baking soda into the crater, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid and red paint to make the lava look real.
2. Slowly pour a teaspoon of vinegar into the crater and watch the eruption.
3. You can continue to add vinegar until the baking soda is completely dissolved.
The layout of the volcano is suitable for multiple experiments.
The KidzLabs 4M series research kit will be of interest to children from 8 years of age. It promotes the development of imagination and thinking. Introduces children to the basics of chemistry, volcanology, geology. Can be used for classes according to the method of Reggio.
