Assemble a home weather station for a 4M research kit. Observe and measure a variety of weather phenomena: wind speed and direction, precipitation, air temperature. You have to do a series of different studies and learn a lot about the science of meteorology. In practice, you will study the water cycle in nature, recreate the greenhouse effect, and observe how acid rain affects plants in a mini-greenhouse.
A young meteorologist will learn what tools can be used to predict weather changes and study the climate. To do this, the set includes a thermometer, anemometer, weather vane, compass, bowl for measuring precipitation. Assemble the weather station according to the illustrated instructions.
How to measure weather phenomena? Catching the wind, the bowls of the anemometer rotate, showing its speed. The stronger the wind, the faster they rotate. Look where the weather vane points and use a compass. The magnetic disk inside the compass will point to the south and north poles of the Earth. This will fix the direction of the wind. Raindrops fall into the funnel and collect in a measuring bowl & ndash; their level will show the amount of precipitation. The thermometer measures the temperature of the air: a special liquid inside the flask expands when the air around it heats up, and the column rises. When the temperature around the thermometer drops, the liquid cools and sinks down.
Record your observations in a weekly weather journal. Try to take measurements and records at the same time. This will make it easier for you to analyze your observations to make a prediction. Make copies of the blank pages of the journal to continue your observations.
Create a small greenhouse, study the water cycle in nature and the effects of soil acidity on plants. For the last experiment, you also need vinegar, soil and some seeds. Most likely to germinate seeds of green beans or beans. You will find a description of the experiment in the instructions.
The set from the STEAM Powered Kids series will be interesting for children from 8 years old. The study of weather phenomena will help develop imagination, intelligence, curiosity, analytical skills. This set is suitable for STEAM training, will complement science lessons.
