The book presents two popular science and two popular journalistic works of the outstanding domestic scientist-physicist, inventor, publicist and public figure Ivan Pulyuy (1845-1918). The first of them, The Perishable Force, which defined the title of the entire book, deals with the discovery and universal manifestations of the fundamental physical law of conservation of energy (in the author's terminology, the Law of Perishable Force). spirit. One of the manifestations of the physical law of indestructible force is the flashes, pulsations and extinctions of stars. Ivan Pulyuy's second popular science work, New and Changing Stars, is devoted to the details of these physical and astronomical phenomena from the point of view of contemporary science. In it, the author also repeatedly bridges the gap from the problems of science to the sphere of spiritual life, ethics and morality. The journalistic work "Some Memories of Kulish and His Wife Anna Barvinok" presents a wide range of information on the history of Ukrainian cultural life of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries, in particular, on the history of creation and publication of the first Ukrainian translation of the Bible. involved. The brochure "Ukraine and its International Political Significance", published in the midst of the First World War, provides an insightful historical and perspective analysis of the "Ukrainian question" in the European context, which has not lost its relevance. The second part of the book consists of analytical materials of leading domestic experts, which present modern views on physical phenomena described in popular science works of I. Pulyuy, as well as characterizes his ascetic activity in science, translation of Scripture and native language.
