The book & laquo; First and Last Freedom & raquo; covers a wide range of eternal themes & ndash; suffering and fear, sex and gossip, & ndash; and the leitmotif here is constantly the leading concept of freedom. Krishnamurti believed that absolute freedom could be achieved only through self-knowledge & ndash; careful observation of yourself, your feelings, thoughts, reactions. Freedom, according to Krishnamurti, & ndash; it is overcoming exhausting and counterproductive selfishness, self-centeredness. When people gain this first freedom, freedom from their own "I", then they will have a chance to free themselves from the pernicious dictates of society. Fundamental changes in society are possible only through the transformation of the consciousness of each individual.
