Peter Konashevich Sagaidachny (1570-1622) went down in history as one of the most prominent Cossack hetmans of the Zaporozhian Army, a prominent military leader, statesman, diplomat, defender of Ukrainian culture and spirituality. Thanks to his activities, the Cossack army became a regular military formation. Sagaidachny's victories in the campaigns to the Crimea and Turkey contributed to the growth of the international importance of the Ukrainian Cossacks. The hetman also played a significant role in the Khotyn War of 1620-1621. During the Battle of Khotyn, Sagaidachny led a 40,000-strong Cossack army. Victory in it stopped the Ottoman Empire's attack on Europe. And this is the unsurpassed merit of Peter Konashevich Sagaidachny - a victorious knight who was always "ready to serve the fatherland, to lay down his life for his freedom."
