Petro Kraliuk (born 1958) - Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Chairman of the Academic Council of the National University "Ostroh Academy". He is the author of numerous works on the history of Ukrainian culture, including its philosophical thought. He created his own concept of the history of Ukrainian philosophy, which differs from the generally accepted one. He is also known for his historical journalism on the pages of The Day, the Mirror of the Week and the website of Radio Liberty. He wrote a number of novels and short stories ("Six Days", "Knight and Death", "Diopter", "Discovery of Paradise"). Folio Publishing House has published P. Kraliuk's books "The Real Mazepa", "Cossack Mythology of Ukraine: Creators and Epigones", "Bohdan Khmelnytsky: Legend and Man", where he gives a somewhat unusual view of the role of elite and Cossacks in the history of Ukraine. , as well as “Yaroslav the Wise.”

P. Kraliuk's new book deals with difficult relations between Ukrainians and their ancestors and Turks. The author shows that these were relations between two civilizations (agricultural and nomadic), which were often confrontational. However, there were many examples of "complementarity" and cooperation. Attention is drawn to the history of relations between the Slavic population of the present-day Ukrainian lands and the Avars, Bulgars, Pechenegs, Polovtsians, Torks, Tatars, Turks, etc. Particular attention is paid to the relations between the Ukrainian Cossacks, on the one hand, and the Crimean Khanate and the Ottoman Empire, on the other. It is shown that the Turks played a significant role in the genesis of the Ukrainian ethnic group, and Ukrainian culture has many Turkic elements.
