The book by the famous Swedish writer Peter Englund (b. 1957) is dedicated to one of the sad pages in Swedish history - the defeat of Charles XII's army on June 27 (July 8) 1709 near Poltava by Peter the Great's army. The Battle of Poltava had far-reaching consequences for the whole of Europe, but it is reluctantly mentioned in Sweden. That is why the Ukrainian reader will be interested to see those distant events "from the Swedish bell tower". The book contains little-known factual material, much illustrated.
