This work was conceived as an introduction to the religious thought of Vladimir Solovyov for the English reader with a conscious appeal to the modern methodology of comparative religion. From the point of view of the question of the essence of the true religious tradition, the author carefully examines Soloviev's views on non-Christian faith systems, especially Buddhism, Taoism and Islam, to get a better understanding of what the thinker considered essential and distinctive features of Christian revelation. The author argues that the widespread view of Soloviev as a philosopher who denies the world is wrong. A careful reading of his philosophical and theological works, taking into account his active involvement in social reforms, shows that the true essence of Christianity, according to Soloviev, involves active participation in "world" affairs in its current state and requires sincere believers, true Christians from the world, and to transform it in the spirit of love and compassion, as well as in the spirit of justice.
