Talk about Ukraine

This book is the third in a series of conversations between Iza Khruslinska and Ukrainian intellectuals. The first two were with Oksana Zabuzhko and Yosyf Zisels. But this book was chronologically the first - it was published in Polish in 2009. The main topic of conversation with Yaroslav Hrytsak is the suitability of history to understand what is happening in Ukraine and with Ukraine in recent decades. Ukraine's relations with its historical neighbors, Poles and Russians, as well as Ukrainian-Jewish relations, are particularly emphasized. But above all, it is a question of the historical dimension of the current problems and challenges facing Ukraine - and the extent to which knowledge of history makes it possible to understand future development scenarios. Since the Polish edition was published almost ten years ago, much of this book has been rethought and rewritten, including a new chapter on developments over the past decade.
