This book is the most complete publication of the diary entries of Alexander Petrovich Dovzhenko (1894-1956) for the period from 1939 to 1956, where he captures the main events of his personal and creative life since the release of the film "Shchors" (1939) and until the completion of work on the screenplay "Poem about the Sea" (1956). Historical events witnessed by OP Dovzhenko are described in detail: the accession of Western Ukraine to the USSR, the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the retreat of the army and the occupation of Ukraine by German troops, the liberation of Ukraine (Kharkov, Kiev), postwar years, Stalin's death and life changes countries that followed. The author also talks about meetings with his contemporaries, including statesmen and artists of the Soviet Union and Ukraine, reflects on the past and future. It was on the pages of the diary that OP Dovzhenko entrusted his most secret creative plans, the development of scripts "Ukraine on Fire", "Michurin", short stories and the unfinished novel "Golden Gate".
