Nothing has been known about Hryhoriy Babenko, the author of fascinating historical novels, neither when he was born nor when he died. And only recently has he managed to shed some light on this extraordinary author.
He graduated from Kharkiv University in 1911, became interested in history at a young age, even corresponded with Dmitry Yavornytsky.
Judging by how Babenko describes Slobozhanshchyna well, we can assume that he was born there. He worked as a doctor, and since 1928 he was the head of the medical unit in the town of Polohy, Zaporizhia region.
. And before that he published a novel from the life of the hermitages "In the fog of the past" (1927) and the novel "People from the Red Rock" (1929) - about the Stone Age. The author's latest publication is the adventure story "The Price of Youth", published in Kharkiv in 1932. Since then, no information about the writer has been found.
Historical stories of Hryhoriy Babenko have not lost their appeal even now. And the courage with which he described the colonization of Ukraine by Muscovites is frankly surprising. Because no other author of historical works published in the USSR has dared to do so.
These stories will be interesting to both young and old. Fascinating adventures, juicy language - all this is very modern, so these little-known works of the past are worth reprinting and re-reading.
