Mykola Gogol's novel "Taras Bulba" belongs to the series "Myrhorod". The central characters of the work are the Zaporozhian Cossacks, and the place of action - Ukraine of the XVII century. The events of the work take place during a difficult period in the history of the Cossacks, when the Cossacks rose to fight against the Commonwealth. At the center of the events was the family of Cossack Colonel Taras Bulba, who is experiencing a deep personal drama. His son Andrew fell in love with a Polish aristocrat and opposed the Zaporozhian Army. Taras, who is torn between feelings and duty, decides this unequivocally. "I gave birth to you, I will kill you!" He says to his son, meeting face to face on the battlefield. Then Taras and the regiment continue to destroy the Poles. He is wanted and sent after him, eventually besieged. The Cossacks break through the Polish ranks, but Taras loses his pipe and rushes to look for it. The Poles took advantage of this and took him prisoner. In the end, Taras Bulba is burned at the stake.
