The proposed edition is the result of almost twenty years of work of the author. All information material, drawn from Polish and Ukrainian, partly Soviet and German sources, is presented in the form of historical and local lore chronicles. The first part of the work has twelve time sections and covers the period from 1540 to 1944. Analysis of events and comments on them are kept to a minimum, but they reflect the author's civic position. The events of the First and Second World Wars are covered in a new way. For the first time, lists of mayors and honorary citizens of Ternopil and a synchronous table of city streets are published. The monograph was tested on the pages of the city newspaper "Ternopil Evening" in 1999-2002. For a wide range of Ternopil residents and guests of the city, pupils, students and scientists, as well as anyone interested in the history of the native land.
