This is the first popular science publication that reveals the poetic image of Ukrainian costumes of the forest-steppe region in all their varied diversity. Ukrainian national clothing is a bright, visually fixed manifestation of the identity of our culture and is one of its most moving species. The modern reader will be interested to know what our grandparents wore, what canons of beauty they followed. An illustrative selection of the publication will present traditional sets, details of clothing and accessories of authentic clothing of the Forest-Steppe from private and museum collections of Ukraine. The book contains information of historical, ethnographic and local lore; in particular, special attention will be paid to the artistic features and symbolic content of the elements of the national system. The text of the publication is accompanied by a glossary of terms that reflect the realities of folk life of the early twentieth century, widely used in his time, but today, unfortunately, known only to a narrow circle of experts.
