Jean-Jacques Rousseau's treatises presented in this publication (Discourse on Science and the Arts, Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, and Social Agreement) are key texts for understanding the moral, cultural, religious, and political contradictions of our time. As a critic of the rationalist Enlightenment, Rousseau foresaw the moral crisis of modernity and sought to find effective means of restoring republican virtues and civic spirit. The contradiction of the views of the great Geneva, who discovered and hidden the totalitarian notion of "common will", and the significance of the Other, in particular - the cultures of non-European peoples, only reflects the contradictions of our era. The first two treatises were translated into Ukrainian for the first time. Each of the main works is accompanied by other texts of the author, reflecting the history and polemical context of the formation of his ideas, as well as research materials, extensive commentaries and reference staff. It is intended for everyone who is interested in the history of ideas, philosophy, culturology, anthropology, especially researchers and students of relevant specialties.
