Dedicated to the little-known in Ukraine figure of Julian Kulakowski (1855-1919), professor of Roman literature at the Imperial University of St. Volodymyr, the author of the first in our territory historical and analytical work "History of Byzantium" (1910-1915), the book tells about his life in Kiev and scientific work, mostly in the second decade of the twentieth century. Built on a biographical principle, Kulakovsky's documentary chronicle is designed to consolidate the humanistic contour of the creative personality in the causal-chaotic, mostly Kyiv features of the politically shimmering period of the late 1900s - 1910s in the mosaic flicker "background / character".
