From the standpoint of the latest biography, the publication covers the main stages of life, presents the worldview and traces the history of published works of the outstanding Ukrainian children's writer, winner of the National Prize of Ukraine named after T. Shevchenko Volodymyr Hryhorovych Rutkivsky. The book contains a thorough analysis of the artist's creative heritage, his epistolary (letters and memoirs), which is introduced into scientific and cultural-artistic circulation for the first time, and a selection of the writer's statements on the specifics of children's literature and writing for children. Historical and biographical comments of the author of the essay reveal information about the intellectual environment of Volodymyr Rutkivsky in different periods of his life, as well as widely present the sources of his bio- and bibliography. It is intended for scientists, teachers, librarians, students, but, above all, a wide range of readers who are interested in the dramatic fate of the contemporary artist, closely intertwined with the still little-known history of children's literature in Ukraine.
