The name of Mykhailo Lomatsky (1886, Ternopil region - 1968, Germany) is almost unknown to the readership, it is known only in a narrow circle of Hutsul scholars and literary critics. However, this man made a significant contribution to Ukrainian culture. Ethnographer, folklorist, publicist, cultural and public figure, teacher, Mykhailo Lomatsky was in love with the magical nature and people of the Hutsul region, collected and recorded legends, parables, beliefs; as an active member of the Hutsul Society, he devoted a lot of energy and time to research and artistic and documentary reproduction of the past of the Hutsul region, which is reflected in his works. He became the author of a great saga about the Hutsul region, which was published in 1950-1960.
