The original figure of Zuzanna Ginchanka (1917–1944) has attracted the attention of Ukrainian readers only in recent years. Born in Kyiv into a Jewish family, she became a famous Polish poetess of the interwar period. However, Zuzanna's life was a brief bright flash, as she fell victim to the Holocaust at the age of 27. The poet's passionate lyrics are not only a phenomenon of her extraordinary talent, but also a living testimony to the tragedy of the Jewish people, the embodiment of great creative energy, which was not destined to be realized.
The collection contains a translation of Zuzanna Ginchanka's fifty best poems and covers various periods of her work.
The publication is illustrated with archival photographs of Zuzanna Ginchanka and her friends (1930s) from the collection of the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature in Warsaw.
